my goodness I did not even realise I had not blogged in so long. So many reasons and so many excuses.
Plus have not really had the motivation to blog although I have done a lot and a lot has been going on in my home.
Today I will talk about the chookies.
I love them so and boy have the newer ones grown. Sober is rather the dominant Rooster who also tries to go at the kids rather aggressively especially Jaedyn. So they are let out to forage about when the kids are inside. he does try to attack myself and Brian at times but it's the kids his not happy about.
The girls are all laying and we are getting up to six eggs a day, the productive girlies are a happy lot producing rather tasty eggs. I can't keep up with the baking to use them up so some friends get them regularly. One family swaps for a bag of lemons when I hand over a carton of eggs to them.
Today I got to work on securing of our vegetable growing areas as the Wyndottes showed the others how to get into there and they all proceeded to totally dig up the entire area. which destroyed what was left in the winter crops after the bad frost we had killed a number of plants.
Although we lost all our winter crops they really turned over the soil much better then we could ever have hoped to do.
So in the next couple of weeks a lot of planting of seeds, potatos and seedlings will be happening. I promise to keep you updated.

Look at them now!
Our chickens have come along a rather long way. Our four original chooks are now on their second lay, having moulted and back on the lay. Even though the black ones are being rather slow.
The newer girls have started laying themselves. They have become very pretty girls, especially Casey our Silver Laced.
Sober Mick is now very protective of the girls so much so we have to watch our backs as he takes a good run at us. he has taken a good peck at Brian and Jazynthe but has knocked Jaedyn down on a couple of occasions.
Great chookies we have. Can't wait to see when there are baby chookies here.

A handsome cockeral and gorgeous girls.
Time has gone by rather quickly in our home. So much has been happening but I have been slack on the photo taking so blog in turn is neglected.
My little girl has started school and my baby boy has started care for two days a week. I had bit of a cry about both, lucky for me a good friend was out in the car park to give me a hug after he was droped of for his first day.
We have had heavy rain for over a week since the huge hail storm, so much rain was comming down that we had a creek running down one side of the yard through the chicken run (lucky they could go to higher ground in the hutch. the chicks on the other hand had to be rescued and taken indoors to keep from being drowned.
The chicks have grown a lot since my lost blog on them. Casey is looking splended with fantastic colouring. Lara is still not so clear in colouring but she still is looking gorgeous.
the handsome boy among them is looking rather handsome. His starting to assert himself a lot more now. Although he does run of every now and then from the girls. He has been crowing a small amount. Not a clear crow but is crowing. What makes it all very funny is Lucy tries to crow herself, all in an effort to try and keep as the boss. Too bad it's not working as well anymore.

Chicken run and chicks!
Finally I built and finished the run for the chooks. Much needed since we went and got a rooster and two chicks. Yes we now have two chicks. On Friday last week we went, well Brian and Jazynthe went and bought another chick. this time a Blue Laced so we have a Silver and a blue to breed chicks with Sober Mick our rooster. Casey needed a friend with having to be kept seperate from the other for a period of time. I have named her Lara after Lara Croft.
The chicken run took a lot of work to build. The area that it's in is on top of a large sandstone slab. At least some of it was soft enough for me to be able to get the maddock through it.But further down it was very hard and nothing would get through any of it. That was not the only trouble I had digging the trenches. On one side I also had to contend with a major root system from both our own apple tree but also huge pine trees from a fence line five or so metres away. Brian did do some of the digging for me on Saturday. I pretty much errected the fence largely by myself.
Each day I crumbled in a heap in the late afternoon from both exhaustion and aching joints from my arthritus.
Today I finally finished up at lunch time.
With no car available to me due to ours being at the mechanics yet again with a blown head gasket this time. I had to fish around our yard and shed for anything that could be used to put it all together as Brian didn't buy another roll of chicken wire when he went and bought the star pickets. I had hoped to have a nice looking run, instead we have one that does the job and is not so snazzy looking like I hoped.
I put bird netting over the back area so as to not allow the possibility of them flying over to the neighbours yard. Already glad I did as Sober Mick gets on top of the hutch, so he would easily fly over the fence.
Next job is to get in a bunch of seeds and seedlings. All along the edges. So when they drow through the fence the chooks will have something to peck at.
The bigger one is Casey, small one is Lara.
I think she is very cute, she is still very downy. The chicken run took a lot of work to build. The area that it's in is on top of a large sandstone slab. Casey and Sober
Today was the day of neered kind. This morning we made the trek down to Penrith to firstly pick up a new hen.
She is only a young one to with not all her feathers in yet. Rather pretty one she is. Once she is fully grown she will be a marvelous looking girl with fantastic colouring. Jazynthe named her Casey.
Then back up the mountain we did go hi ho hi ho.
To pick up a lovely little rooster which has been named Sober...don't ask me why but that is the name Jazynthe chose. I had been thinking of Mick or Jager after Mick Jager and his strut abouting antics on stage just like a rooster. Maybe I'll secretly call him Sober Mick.
In real life he is even more handsome than the pictures do show.
The bossy older girls of mine have shown some authority over him, highly dought this will last once he comes into being an adult rooster.
I do feel for the family who raised him till now, but they are more than welcome to come visit their baby anytime they want.
Look out for future blogs about these babies progress and to see who in the flock is up first for babies.
